This is a partnership between Acrylic University and
RADA (River Artists District Artists).
Project Hope
"Project Hope" was originally inspired by the desire to support those impacted by Hurricanes Helene and Milton in 2024. The project took on new urgency after hearing from an Acrylic University member about the extensive flooding in Asheville’s River Arts District, where 80% of the artist studios were submerged. Through collaborative painting, Project Hope aims to extend support and hope to artist friends and families facing this unexpected hardship.
A Symbol of Strength and Resilience
This is Acrylic University’s first community art project. We chose to paint a view of a valley between mountains to symbolize the journey from hardship to joy. Challenging times can be likened to a valley—a place of struggle that often becomes an opportunity for growth, even in the midst of pain.
A valley, by its nature, lies between two mountains. This perspective reminds us that if we find ourselves in a low point, it is not permanent; rather, it signals that we are on the journey toward a new summit. We have experienced joy before, and though we may feel low now, the valley is leading us toward another peak of fulfillment and joy awaiting us ahead.
A Collaborative Effort
This project not only represents each artist’s journey but also symbolizes community, as we come together to support and uplift one another. Through shared effort, we bring hope and strength to those facing their own valleys, affirming that none of us are alone in this path.
A Living, Evolving Work
As the art project was a work in progress, it grew as each artist contributed their part. Visitors could check back periodically to witness its development, watching each piece of the painting gradually fall into place, forming a complete tapestry over time.
This unfolding process reflects the collaborative spirit of the project and serves as a powerful reminder that growth, resilience, and hope come together—piece by piece.
